Speech about Georgia in EP Pleanarry session
Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, Member of the European Parliament 2009 12 16
Mr. President,
When I was still a young boy, my country Lithuania was invaded by soviets. In my primary we had to learn several new songs. One among them was Georgian in origin, about a girl whose name was Suliko. The occupation was bad in everything, only that song was nice.
Many years have passed, and we were facing recently this girl Suliko again, with her black eyes full of tears and traces around of being beaten. She was abused once more - a year ago - robbed, beaten and raped. We, 27 European gentlemen, are glazing at her after that and talking in a strange manner: how it could happen? where she was wrong? did her behaviour irritate the rapist? He says, exactly, she was provocative. Did she oppose his demands? It would be unwise. Nobody, especially the robber and rapist, must be antagonized or demonized. She could have been more flexible meeting the assault softly, but while she tried to defend herself during entire two days, it was her greatest mistake. Nobody can say now, who was the attacker. He says - she attacked him.
That is the situation of distant countryside's court in outskirts of Europe, where the big landlord esquire cannot be sentenced in any case. She can!
Thus we have had fresh problem caused by her, as our business with Mr. Rapist was slightly damaged. The next time Mr. Rapist is given our special pile “Mistral` to increase his male capacities.
Ladies and gentlemen in Europe, stop to continue waving around the next war this way.
