The expert: the opportunity to visit Lithuania was more important for Lukashenka than the visit itself
2010 03 15

“I assume that the opportunity to participate in this event was more important for the President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenka than any divvy from such a visit post factum” – stated the Russian political scientist Vladimir Simindej on 10 March to the IA REGNUM reporter. We should remind that on the 10th of March it has become evident that the Belarusian President is not going to Vilnius for the celebration of the Independence Day of Lithuania, where he was earlier invited by the Head of the Lithuanian State Dalia Grybauskaite.
“Actually here Lukashenka achieved what he wished. He demonstrated the possibility of participating in the events of the country having a common state border line with Belarus, while Minsk experiences rather complicated political relations. I assume that Belarusian leader achieved certain assets here”, - considers Simindej.
Viktor Buria, Vice Premier will be the Head of the Belarusian delegation at the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Lithuanian Independence Day on the 11th of March.
It should be reminded that upon the Lithuanian request Belarusian General Prosecutor’s Office carried out on the 1st of March an interrogation of the general Vladimir Uschopchik, extradition of whom the official Vilnius is seeking. Uschopchik headed the Vilnius military unit during the events of the 13th January 1991. According to the Lithuanian authorities and juridical bodies, he is actually considered guilty in the death of peaceful citizens.
