The neighbouring Estonia has voiced loud accusation towards the “hand of Moscow” again. This time “Moscow” has set its “hand” onto the mass media of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania in the Russian language, aiming thus at expanding the sphere of Russian influence in the cross-border countries.
Such statement is expressed in the annual report of the Estonian Security Police (KaPo), published on 12 April. As reported in the ERR portal, KaPo warned that “Russia may try in the nearest future to expand its sphere of influence through mass media means of the neighbouring countries, including Estonia, where a favourable situation is developed in the mass media of Russian speaking population encountering economic difficulties”.
In December 2009 the President of Russia Dmitrij Medvedev announced at the Media Forum of Europe and Asia, that Russia must support mass media of Russian speaking population abroad.
“It is evident that for achieving this aim they are going to enhance their efforts in expanding the zone of influence through mass media, to increase the efficiency of reporting, and making use of the so called soft forces, to interfere into the internal affairs of other states”, - says the report.
Russia as one of the leading countries in the sphere of propaganda uses all possible forms of means for disseminating their positions and the system of values: feature films, show broadcasting, advertisements, scientific conferences, cultural programmes, meetings and seminars, books, scientific research, etc. The goal is to influence individuals taking decisions to choose the more favourable for Russia direction”, - stated the Estonian Security Police.
