2010 10 21

In the evening on Monday, 18 October, the NATO fighters expelled two Russian military aircrafts from the airspace of the Baltic.
Two aircrafts SU24 were noticed in the airspace over the Baltic Sea somewhere between Liepaja and Ventspils. They have not responded to the call of identifying themselves, therefore, for defining their route and the flight details, two NATO fighters were raised from their basis in Šiauliai.
According to the words of Airis Rikvelis, the head of the bureau of the Defence Minister, the NATO fighters identified the Russian aircrafts and accompanied them beyond the airspace controlled by the forces of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The Defence Ministry is sure that the fact of Russian aircrafts not responding to the call on identification may in no way be considered a friendly gesture.
