The European vector of Belarus is more and more getting the Polish-Lithuanian direction
2010 10 30

On 26 October 2010 the Defence Minister of Belarus Lieutenant-General Juri Zhadobin is arriving in Lithuania for a two day working visit, reported the correspondent of IA Regnum News. The Defence Minister is accompanied by a numerous delegation of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
The Lithuanian side has already announced meetings of the Belarusian delegation with the Defence Minister of Lithuania Rasa Jukneviciene and Jonas Zukas, the acting Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Military Forces, to be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2010. The issues to be discussed at the meeting of defence ministers of the two countries will cover international security, bilateral cooperation, and the coordination of the participation of military contingents in international operations. As a result of the meeting it is expected to sign agreements on cooperation in the sphere of defence.
According to the opinion of experts of IA Regnum News, similar contacts on the highest level between Belarusian military officers and their Lithuanian and Polish counterparts are taking place more often and are becoming regular and constructive. Delegation of the Armed Forces of Belarus headed by the Chief of Staff Peter Tikhonovskij visited Poland in June 2010. Currently a group of Belarusian officers is in Poland for visiting several Polish garrisons. So this, possibly, becomes the new “vector” of Belarusian policy corresponding to the recently announced, but not yet published, new security concept of Belarus.
