Aleksandr Igorev. Poland has convinced Obama on ABM
2010 12 17

Just a few days ago Bronislav Komarowski assured the end of stagnation in the relationship between our countries. Also Moscow went to great lengths for making these relations of good neighbourhood. And here you are again!
- It is impossible to reconstruct all the previous relations by just one push of a button “reset”, - stated on 8 December Bronislav Komorowski arriving in Washington for the meeting with Barack Obama.
- We are not fully ready to reset and delete uneasy relations with the Russians over a thousand of years.
And later it has become evident that Komorowski and Obama against the objections of Russia have agreed on dislocation of ABM elements “European ABM” in Poland – the American fighters F-16 will be accommodated here in the middle of 2013. And before 2018 ground-based interceptor missile SM-3 and military transport planes Hercules will be also dislocated in Poland.
However, out of diplomatic considerations, Komorowski made a few cautious reverences towards Russia.
- We trust Russia, but from time to time it is necessary to check which direction we are moving.
According to the words of the Polish President, “historical threats” are still existing between or nations, but Bronislav Komorowski encouraged not being afraid of the democratic Russia: “It’s a different country now”.
- No one else is more interested in developing relations between the West and Russia, - stated the President. – We have today become for Russia as the Middle West, to our Polish pride, but we still remember that some 10 or 15 years ago we were the near abroad. The Russian tradition has a saying that explains everything: «Курица не птица - Польша не заграница» (A hen is not a bird and Poland is not abroad). We should move further in the direction of changing the way of thinking of Russia about itself and about the close and the far West.
