The Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite opened on 4 November in Vilnius the Conference "International mechanisms to ensure the safety of nuclear power". As REGNUM correspondent was informed at the press service of the President, the conference brought together experts from 20 countries, including representatives from the European Commission and the IAEA.
In her welcoming speech Dalia Grybauskaite emphasized that in developing projects countries must first of all think about the consequences, including for the neighbours". The Chernobyl and Fukushima accidents have taught us that the safety of nuclear power is the essential issue for the entire international community. Therefore a shared responsibility and the urgent goal is to ensure that the production of nuclear energy in every corner of the world were in line with the highest international safety standards" - said the President of Lithuania. She noted that Lithuania not only encourages the IAEA to regularly promote the principles of safe operation of nuclear power plants, but also to conduct regular assessments of nuclear power plants in operation or under construction.
Be reminded that Lithuania protests against the construction of "Rosatom" NPP in Kaliningrad and in Belarus, stating them unsafe.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine filed a lawsuit in the UN International Court of Justice against Russia within the framework of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, says the site of the Foreign Minister. Alexander Lukashenko on 9 January signed a decree № 8 "On the establishment of visa-free entry and exit of foreign nationals." The document establishes visa-free entry to Belarus for a period not exceeding 5 days at the entrance through the checkpoint "National Airport Minsk" for citizens of 80 countries, - reported the press service of the President of Belarus.
