|Visiting the Russian Federation is dangerous for the citizens of Ukraine – MFA
The Foreign Ministry considers that Ukrainians are threatened by arbitrary arrests in Russia.
Visiting the Russian Federation is dangerous for Ukrainians. This was stated by the Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexei Makeyev on his Twitter page after the arrest of the Ukrainian journalist by the FSB people.
"Visiting the Russian Federation is dangerous for Ukrainians: unfounded detention, provocations on the border and customs control, torture, non-admission of consuls", - he wrote.
On 3 October the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation confirmed the arrest in Moscow of the Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, calling him a career employee of the Ukrainian military intelligence. Criminal proceedings under the article "Espionage" were opened against the Ukrainian citizen.
It was revealed on the same day that on 1 October the Lefortovo Court of Moscow has selected preventive measure for Roman Sushchenko in the form of arrest for two months. Sushchenko will be defended by the well-known Russian lawyer Mark Feigin.
According to the MFA of Ukraine, at least 29 Ukrainian citizens are illegally held on the territory of Russia at present. Dozens of people, mostly Crimean Tatars, are persecuted in the annexed Crimea, 16 - are considered missing yet. Another 115 Ukrainians, both military and civilians, are held hostage to the Russian-terrorist groups in the occupied Donetsk and Lugansk regions, while the terrorists claimed holding only 45 people in captivity.
