Lukashenko promises to support Russian army in the western direction

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that Russia may rely upon the support of the Belarusian army in the western direction.
"We will, together with the Russian people, the Russians, protect our common homeland on no less important to Russia westbound direction... We will die here, on this westward direction, defending Belarus and Russia", - said Lukashenka on Friday during a meeting with parliamentarians.
He noted that "Belarusian army is equipped with the most advanced weapons and is able to repel any aggressor."
"We can talk about the complete modernization of our army, we have actually accomplished it. We have adapted it to the types of possible wars that could be waged against our country - from the actions in the information space to the hot war", - said the Belarusian leader.
Treaty establishing the Union State of Russia and Belarus was signed on 8 December 1999 in Moscow. The Treaty entered into force on 26 January 2000. The powers of the Union State cover foreign policy, defence and security, fiscal, monetary and tax systems, customs and energy, transport and communication issues. Each of the States retains sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, political system, constitution, national flag and coat of arms.
